SY 24-25 Student Re-registration Window Opens on April 10

The Student Re-registration window opens on April 10, 2024. Parents should complete a re-registration for each currently enrolled student as soon as possible. During re-registration, parents must indicate whether their student will be withdrawing or returning for the upcoming school year.

DVHS Summer School Program

DVHS Online Summer School Program

DVHS' Online Summer School Program is designed for students to complete the equivalent of one semester course credit. The program traditionally provides students an opportunity to earn original credit or to replace a failing grade.

Summer School 2024 dates: June 14 - July 25, 2024.

Eligibility

Eligibility is limited to students enrolled in grades 9 -12 in the current school year, with priority given to rising seniors who need the credit for graduation.

Registration

The registration period generally runs from April to mid-June before the beginning of the online summer school classes.

  • Registration for Summer School 2024: Begins April 1, 2024
  • Requests for online summer high school courses must be submitted by the local school counselor using the DVHS Summer School Workflow in Aspen/DSIS.
  • Confirmation of enrollment is provided to the local school counselor through the Aspen/DSIS workflow process.
  • High School Counselors: Before requesting an online summer school course through the workflow, please have your students and parents sign the Online Summer School Commitment Agreement.  Retain the signed form for your files. In addition, the local school counselor is responsible for informing students and sponsors of their enrollment status and reviewing applicable DoDEA summer school guidance published each year. Course Selection

Students generally enroll in only one semester course during the summer program. Final course offerings and student enrollments will be subject to minimum course enrollments and course and staff availability.

Schedule

  • The DVHS Online Summer School Program generally begins mid-June and ends the first week of August.
  • Summer school courses compress eighteen weeks of work into the six-week summer session. Three days of material is covered in approximately four hours of work/study time. Missing one week of classwork (five days) is the equivalent of missing three weeks (fifteen days) during the regular school year. Each course includes an assignment schedule with required due dates: tests and exams cannot be opened early. If you are planning on being absent for any time this summer, for example, for a family vacation or a camp, please contact our administration at DVHS.summerschool@dodea.edu or by phone at 571-660-9590 before beginning the class.  Our offices are located on MCB Quantico in Virginia in the Eastern time zone.
  • Our summer school timeline is compatible with the majority of the DoDEA high school calendars. Considerations are made for students enrolled in the DoDEA Americas schools, which may begin the new school year before the end of summer school.
  • Requests for course schedule extensions may not be granted.

Student Responsibilities

Because students will be participating in the DVHS Online Summer School Program away from the local school environment, students must have access to a computer at home or another location with a stable Internet connection for the entire length of the program. Students should also plan to devote, at a minimum, two to four hours per course each day (Monday-Friday) throughout the term. This dedicated time is necessary to allow students to be fully engaged in learning activities, submit assignments, and complete coursework.

Course Withdrawal

Requests for withdrawal from a summer school course must be submitted to the summer school email address provided on the student's enrollment letter (DVHS.summerschool@dodea.edu) within five days of the start of the course.

  • Any enrolled student deemed inactive after the third day of the start of a course will be withdrawn by the DVHS staff.
  • Re-enrollment in an online summer school course after the start of a course is subject to DVHS administrative approval.
  • Any student deemed active beyond the fifth day of a course will receive an official grade on their transcript.
  • Any student who withdraws between the sixth and tenth day will receive a grade of WP (Withdrawn Passing) or WF (Withdrawn Failing).
  • No withdrawals will be processed after the tenth day of class.
