Student Support Services

Special Education (SPED) Services and 504 Accommodation Plans

Upon completion of enrollment, the local DoDEA school shall share and collaborate with the DoDEA Virtual High School (DVHS) Counselor and DVHS Student Support Coordinator any notes or relevant information which may affect the student’s success in the DVHS. The DVHS Student Support Coordinator has access to the IEP and 504 Accommodation Plans of students currently enrolled in local DoDEA schools when those plans have been posted in the DoDEA Student Information System (DSIS) by the local DoDEA school.

The DVHS Student Support Coordinator will review each incoming student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plan to confirm that the student’s required services, accommodations and/or modifications are appropriate to an online environment to ensure the student is able to receive an education in accordance with their IEP or 504 Accommodation Plan. Decisions regarding the type of special education services to be provided and the educational placement for the provision of such services is based upon a student's individual need. Students with disabilities are educated in the least restrictive environment that is most appropriate for them.

The provision of special education and related services within DoDEA is implemented in accordance with DoD Instruction 1342.12 and DoD Manual 1342.12. Section 504 Accommodation Plans within DoDEA are implemented in accordance with DoDEA Administrative Instruction 1365.01.
